Governors

Welcome to William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools Governing Body

The Governors of William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools  have the responsibility for education of the children in our schools. The Local Governing Body, whose membership includes the school's head teachers, provides strategic leadership to the school and takes key decisions in areas such as finance, staffing structure and appointments and premises as well as monitoring educational performance.

Our members are drawn from parents, staff and the local community so that we bring a wide range of experiences and views to our debates. Although we are all volunteers we take our duties very seriously and consequently have a genuine impact upon the school and the education provided to William Stockton and Wimboldsley Federated Schools children. There are typically three Full Governing Body meetings per year. There are also several sub-committee meetings and members regularly attend training events.

Governors welcome enquiries from all sections of the community about membership. We always embrace people who are committed to the ethos of the school and who are willing to work with us to improve the quality of the leadership that we provide. Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn and contribute are the most important qualities. We can be contacted through the school.

Positive feedback is always welcome (so we can repeat successful things more often) but we also want to learn about things we can improve. We can readily be contacted through the school. If the matter is sensitive then a sealed envelope can be forwarded to the Governing Body via the school office.

My background and track record reflect my unflinching ambition to improve outcomes for all children. I am currently in my seventh year of leading a primary school in Bolton and by the end of this academic year I am hoping to return to the classroom, supporting children with reading and writing- back to where it all began 30 years ago! I have a considerable amount of experience of governance and I am looking forward to putting all of this to good use as part of your federation.

Davina Hein - Parent Governor

I am a parent to my 2 children Sophia and Isabelle and my two cats: India & Pixie. My Children have been brilliantly cared for by William Stockton School for the last 10 years. I am part of the Friends of William Stockton (Chairperson) or FOWS as we are nicknamed and have enjoyed raising money for the support and enjoyment of all the children. I work as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant at a local school. I have a passion for education for all, especially for children with SEND needs and work hard to advocate for children/adults in my spare time. I look forward to working with the Governors of the Federation to maintain the high expectations and support for both Schools. I especially look forward to learning from the wealth of experience and knowledge from the Governors and staff as I begin my journey in Governance.

Name: Mike Slater         Type of Governor: Co-opted Governor

For the past twelve years most of my teaching activities has been with graduates entering the agricultural industry where they were being prepared to advise farmers on crop production matters. It was so revealing to see the  range of understanding they had on food and it’s production. At an early stage all children would benefit from both access to the natural world and an understanding of the value and source of the foods they eat,

When possible I have facilitated trips for children to see farming and offered facilities for nature study and used to take lambs and calves into schools until it was felt that risks from contact with animals was too great. The great disconnect between especially urban children and the countryside has to be overcome.

My aim as a governor would be to help bring these connections together in simple ways to foster children’s interest for the rest of their school careers. Also to protect their learning environment were possible providing adequate space for them to learn and have fun.

Name: Jody Darlington Type of Governor: Parent Governor

I am a hard working individual and have been a dedicated volunteer and PTA member at Wimboldsley since my eldest child first attended in 2016; I have also proudly held the PTA Chair role for the past 3 years. I have always been passionately committed to contributing to the school in any way possible and would dearly love to further this via the parent governor role, as at present, my contribution is limited. I understand how crucial the quality of leadership and the importance of inclusion are in the ethos of the school and its aspiration of achieving excellence. I am a trained TA with a CACHE Level 3 certificate and have worked in a pre-school and a primary school. I have completed the HLTA Level 4 theory modules and have recently signed up to complete the remaining modules

Name: Mrs Moira Atkins     Type of Governor: Staff    Role: Executive Head Teacher

Through these roles I have assisted many schools on their journey to Good and Outstanding. I have worked in Australia, France, Ghana, Jersey and London on Literacy Teacher Training, the curriculum, Action Research Projects and 'Solutions Orientated School' business.
